Rocky® ProHunter Waterproof Insulated Bibs and Parka Review

Cold wind howled from the northeast as the waves splashed violently against the boat. I wondered if the sun would ever shine again since the sky was overcast for so long. Even though it was a cold, wet, and seemingly miserable environment, I was able to pull another monster catfish into the boat with the help from my friends. Now for some reason, big catfish love to feed in this weather; and they must have loved me because I caught a tub full; most in the 20 pound to over 60 pound range.

This is fishing on Lake Conroe in East Texas during the December and January fishing events with my fishing ministry, Crosswater Outfitters. While we try to stay out of the rain as much as possible, sometimes its just unavoidable. This is especially true on cold weather jug fishing trips like these. You have to run your gear and re-bait it again sometimes several times in a given day. The pace is relenting but that is the way it goes on so many outdoor adventures.

I have gone through many sets of rain gear and other outerwear through my adventures as an outdoorsman. From rain suits, ponchos, jackets, and other apparel, they all somehow find an end to their usefulness as they wear out in one way or another. Like so many things in life, you get what you pay for in terms of the quality and durability of what you purchase. This is especially true in the world of clothing gear. Something I look for in good quality cold weather gear is durability and, of course, for it to be permanently waterproof. My other consideration is to keep the cost reasonable.

I finally decided to proverbially pull the trigger and purchase a pair of Rocky® ProHunter Waterproof Insulated Bibs and Parka since they came in a matching set. The price for this outdoor gear was very reasonable and the matching pieces of the set priced lower than most other retail websites I searched. Delivery was also speedy which is something I look for from an online retailer. The first thing I noticed when I tried on the bibs and parka was that I was immediately comfortable and warm. The fit was great and the gear covered me well as quality outerwear should. Whether I was sitting, standing, crouching, or kneeling, this set fit great in every way. The real test came on my next fishing trip and this was where, as I like to say, the bullets were real.  It was indeed cold but, overall, the weather on this particular trip was mild.

All things considered, there is more to be concerned than just rain when you are blasting through choppy water on a bay boat.  Water tends to splash over the front and sides of the boat as you run through the water on the lake at a high rate of speed. Sometimes you can get downright drenched this way. Other times the livewell even overflows making what you thought was a dry seat become wet. There were even times on this trip where every inch of the boat was wet from the waves or some other reason, but it didn’t bother me. I was warm and dry in my Rocky® gear. In fact, this has been the warmest and driest I have even been on one of these fishing trips and I plan to go on many more like it. Rocky® outerwear has helped me regain my confidence that no matter what Mother Nature throws at me, I can face it with confidence and stay comfortable in the worse conditions. I also recently purchased some Rocky® GameChanger Waterproof Outdoor Boots to go along with my parka and bibs. Life is good, especially when you’re fishing and hunting, but it’s even better with Rocky® gear.
